Pitcher Ricky Romero, who had an excellent rookie season in the Blue Jays’ starting rotation, visited his alma mater, Stevenson Middle School in East Los Angeles yesterday, addressing more than 1,200 students about physical fitness, California Fitness testing, striving for dreams and academic achievement.

A former honor student and 2004 graduate of Roosevelt H.S. in L.A., where he posted a 3.8 GPA, Romero was a former Cal State All American and member of Team USA.

Romero started 29 games for Toronto in 2009, posting a 13-9 record and 4.30 ERA.  He is positioned to be at or near the top of the Jays’ rotation this season.
