Freese Foreshadows Decision To Depend On Him  | read this item

Much of our attention this offseason has been focused on the pursuit of Matt Holiday as the solution to the Cardinals’ needs in the outfield as well as the protection in the lineup for El Hombre, Albert Pujols.  The side effect of signing Mr. Holliday allows the Cards to take a chance with a young third baseman, David Freese.

As if foreshadowing this decision, news broke this morning that David was pulled over in Maryland Heights, a St. Louis suburb in the early hours of Saturday* morning for driving erratically.

David was released a few hours later after being cited for driving under the influence and failure to stay in the proper driving lane.  While the Maryland Heights police department will not release specifics, they have stated that his blood alcohol was above the legal limit in Missouri, which is .08.  David has released a statement of apology and regret through his lawyer but has not been reached for direct comment.

*Editor’s Note (correction): The original story mistakenly stated that the incident happened on Sunday morning instead of the early hours of Saturday.
