Phils Win Game Four in Comeback Fashion…AGAIN (Part II)  | read this item

In terms of the rest of the game, it was a tremendous game, and I feel bad for anyone that missed it. Whether you are a Dodgers fan, Phillies fan, or just a baseball fan in general, this was an amazing game to watch. Ryan Howard got things started for the Phils with a two run bomb off of Randy Wolf in the bottom of the first inning to give the Phils a 2-0 lead, and it looked like they were picking up right where they left off on Sunday night in their 11-0 win. However, Wolf settled down after that, as he put up four straight scoreless innings, until he was gotten to for another run in the sixth before being taken out. Joe Blanton, the starter for the Phils, had the exact opposite night as Wolf. Blanton was on cruise control from the start, as he retired the first ten batters in the game, but then the Dodgers finally got to him, and he surrendered two runs in the fourth to tie the game up at two, and then he gave up another run in the fifth and the sixth.

Blanton left after six innings with the Phillies trailing 4-3. Blanton pitched well overall though, as he got a quality start, since only three of his four runs were earned, and he went six innings. The score remained at 4-3 until the bottom of the ninth, as the bullpens for both teams were very impressive. Ronald Belisario, Hong-Chih Kuo, and George Sherrill combined for two and a third scoreless innings, and the Phillies bullpen combined for three scoreless innings from Chan Ho Park, Ryan Madson, Scott Eyre, and Brad Lidge. Lidge was especially impressive, facing only two batters in the top of the ninth, as he struck out both Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, swinging and looking respectively, and it seems that Lidge continues to gain more confidence every time out in this postseason. In this back and forth battle between the two teams, Brad Lidge was the one to pick up the victory in the end, and Jonathan Broxton was saddled with the loss. The Phillies and Dodgers are off today, but on Wednesday night, the Phils will have the chance to wrap up this series at Citizen’s Bank Park and head to the World Series for the second year in a row.

Let’s see if the Phils do it, as it is always more fun to wrap it up at home.
