I don’t know about you but I love retro night, turn back the clock day, or whatever they want to call it at the stadium when they dust off some of those old uniforms from yester year.   I love watching replays of the old games just so I can be reminded of how great some of those uniforms looked and how some of the others make you vomit if you even get a glimpse of them (see Chicago Cubs uniform any of them, Rainbow Astros, Softball White Sox and a few others).

The jersey trend that I am so happy to see return is that wonderful color that is powder blue. I will admit the 80’s took it a bit to far with every team in the league it seemed to be adding the powder  blue to the game day  rotation but I still liked it.  For those of you that don’t remember what teams rocked the powder blue during the 70’s and 80’s they included the Royals, Phillies, Mariners, Blue Jays, Twins, Cubs, Braves, Expos, and of course the Saint Louis Cardinals.

The clock now says it is 2009 going on 2010 and some of these teams have trashed the ugly black uni trend and gone back to their roots with powder blue.  Those two teams being the Royals and Blue Jays who are rocking the powder blue as an everyday uniform not just a special treat once a year.  I am calling for the Cards to go dig around in a storage unit somewhere in south Saint Louis and find the powder blues that they put in moth balls years ago.
Why should we change now?  Well first of all when I think powder blue I think World Series Ring. I know we have won others without the powder power but I still expect to see the powder blue uniforms out there if it is October.  Reason number two they look sweet.  Nothing more needs to be said on that.  Reason three the fans love them.  Just look at the stadium in Saint Louis, Memphis or Springfield on any given night and you will see at least 25% of the fans rocking something powder blue.  Reason number four we as fans won’t have to pay $400 bucks on a throwback if we want powder blue.  The last and final reason is because the Saint Louis version of powder blue might be the best powder blue uni of all time thus it makes it a crying shame to keep it from the public.

Since we have all agreed that the powder blue unis are coming back I think we need to decide how we want them to look.  I personally don’t like the idea of just throwing out an 80’s uni like the Blue Jays did.  I am glad they are rocking the powder blue but you need to update.  I like what they are doing with the powder blue on the other side of I-70.  The Royals almost got it right with their attempt at powder blue.  It is 2009 powder blue pants are out.  The Royals got that right but powder blue uniforms should be and will always be cooler looking if they are v-neck pullovers.  Sorry KC you got that one wrong.

So with all of this being said I think that new powder blue Cardinals uniform should be a powder blue pullover with numbers on the sleeve just like we rocked back in the day but we are trashing the blue pants for white pants with a single red stripe and the classic red had with the STL on the front.  I know I would love to see game one of the series  this year be the place that this uniform is showcased before being used all year next season.
So I am calling the Cardinals out and starting a bring back the powder power petition as of today.  I know you all will love the image of Albert standing there holding his World Series hat over a powder blue jersey on game one of the Series.

Join me now in the fight to bring back the powder power!
