Happy Birthday, Nick Green!  | read this item

Before the 2009 season, Nick Green spent the majority of the 2007 season and the entire 2008 season at the Triple A level for the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees. Signed as a free agent before the season began, it was believed that Green would serve as a backup to the rising Jed Lowrie. Like any baseball season, the 2009 season has been a season with ups and downs for the whole team. In Green’s case, staying healthy was a big problem for Jed Lowrie and for a while Nick Green was outperforming Julio Lugo.

In April and May, Green was whacking the ball better than he had anywhere else, and has served well in his backup role for the most part. During the 2009 season, Green has played every position except first base, right field, center field and catcher. His most impressive performance thus far might have been his 2 innings of scoreless pitching on August 27th versus the Chicago White Sox.

As the 2009 season draws to a close in a few weeks and a hopefully extended postseason follows, the Sox are in good hands with their backup Nick Green. For his contributions thus far, and his stellar pitching line in August, Happy 31st Birthday, Nick Green!
