Tommy Hanson pitched six shutout innings and Nate McLouth drove in four as the Braves beat the Reds, 7-0.

The Braves got the scoring going in the second when Casey Kotchman sac flied a run in. Matt Diaz hit a solo homer in the fourth and McLouth hit a two-run shot in the fifth for a four-run lead.

Hanson helped his own cause with an RBI single in the sixth, his first major league hit and RBI. McLouth added a two-run single in the same inning for insurance.

Tommy Hanson: W (2-0), 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Peter Moylan, Mike Gonzalez, Rafael Soriano: Scoreless inning each

This is why Hanson is a top prospect. It definitely won’t be the last time we see a line like this. The walks are still up but they’ll work their way down as he progresses at the big level, just as he has at every level below. Bobby got the main relievers some work in the rout, including a scoreless inning from Gonzalez after a rough outing last night. Soriano struck out the side in the ninth.

Bobby finally put Kelly Johnson on the bench, starting Martin Prado in place. Prado went 1-3 and scored once. Please just keep Prado in the lineup.

While I have written the Braves off this season, this coming stretch truly determines their chances. It is probably the toughest stretch of games for any team this year.
