Baseball Digest LIVE: Swishalicious!  | read this item

Yes, Nick Swisher’s nickname in Oakland was “Swishalicious”, and yes, it is probably quite silly to waste any space on BaseballDigest.com to discuss the “Swishalicious Conspiracy”, as I have come to call it, but let’s do so anyway.

Last Wednesday (May 20, to be precise), Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher was at Foley’s NY to promote the newest addition to the powerhouse pub’s menu “Swish & Chips”. (A portion of the sales from each serving of “Swish & Chips,” sold between now and the end of the baseball season, will benefit “Swish’s Wishes,” Swisher’s non-profit foundation that helps children.).

I just happen to host “Baseball Digest LIVE” at Foley’s (Monday through Friday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm EDT), and Nick had agreed to appear on the show once he was finished with his various other media requests at the event (which I might add, was put together quite nicely by Foley’s PR guru John Mooney and “Master Of The House”, Foley’s owner Shaun Clancy), and was crowing about the delectable dish for the TV cameras when Clancy exclaimed “It’s Swishalicous!”.

“Awesome, dude!”, said Swisher.

“You know, Nick,” I added, “You really should tell (Yankee announcer John) Sterling to use that as your home run call.”

“Yeah, it’s better than what he’s using now,” he laughed. “Do I look like Jolly Old St. Nick?”

That night, Swisher homered, and Sterling bellowed that his home run was “Swishalicious!”

So, while Swisher’s nickname may be years old, the home run call, as suggested by this writer, is reasonably original.

To hear the entire interview (which doesn’t include this exchange, we were in commercial), you can listen to the link below:
