For our first Small Ball Podcast, I spoke with Mickey Graham of the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Whitecaps are the Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The team will be selling a 4800-calorie hamburger at home games this season. The burger includes 5 beef patties, 5 slices of cheese, one cup of chili, salsa and corn chips.
The burger costs $20.
Our interview focuses on the ideas that led to the creation of the infamous burger. We also discuss the criticism the burger has received from a group of animal rights activists.
It was interesting to find out that the team has been very up front about the unhealthy aspects of the promotion – going as far as giving away T-shirts to anyone who finishes the burger. The T-shirt highlights the enormous amounts of fat, sodium and cholesterol in the burger.
