The Yanks and Royals enter Friday’s action as polar opposites. The Royals are riding high on cool-handed pitching and the Yanks come in to town with hot bats.
New York Yankees (1-2) The Yanks averaged seven runs scored per game in the series vs. Baltimore, keyed by an 11-run onslaught on Thursday. Mark Teixeira had his first home run as a Yankee yesterday, and Robinson Cano was 6-for-11 in the series with three RBIs and three walks (it took him ten games to get his first walk last year). Derek Jeter has reached base six times in thirteen at-bats at the leadoff spot. However, the pitching staff now has a combined 6.84 ERA and the top three starters have struck out only six batters, all by yesterday’s stopper A.J. Burnett. Andy Pettitte will take the hill today. On Saturday night, CC Sabathia will seek to bounce back from a miserable loss to the O’s in his premier effort. Joba Chamberlain debuts on Sunday afternoon.
Kansas City Royals (2-1) KC opens up Kauffman Stadium after taking the Chicago White Sox for two of three closely played games. Starters Kyle Davies, Gil Meche, and Zack Greinke gave up a total of one earned run in twenty innings, striking out twenty-one while only walking five. Royals pitchers also combined to strand thirty-seven Chicago baserunners in the series, while scattering just seven hits in the two victories.

Gotta take 2 outta 3.I am interested to see Andy pitch today and excited to see Joba go tomorrow.
jrz, I’m greedy … having dropped 2 of 3 to Shoe’s guys, I want to see a Kansas City hat trick. Anything less puts them at .500, at best.
