Proving that they their final game in September at US Cellular Field was just an offensive fluke, the Twins posted 12 runs, beating the White Sox 12 to 5.
Former Sox Joe Crede, who was serenaded by Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” in his first at-bat since signing with the AL Central rival Twins, socked a solo home run in his return to his former stomping grounds. Justin Morneauwould hit second home run of the year and add four RBIs, finishing the night 2-for-5. Patience was a virtue as the Twins made Sox starter Jose Contreras labor to throw strikes. It took Contreras six Twins before finally throwing a first pitch strike to Delmon Young. The Sox allowed seven free passes on the night. Sox reliever Mike MacDougal was particularly bad, facing two batters and walking them on eight straight pitches.
Twins starter, knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, struggled at times to find the strike zone, giving up four hits and three walks in his five innings of work. Dickey found first baseman Paul Konerko particularly confounding as he surrendered a double and home run to the Sox mainstay. Left-handed reliever Brian Duensing followed Dickey for three innings, only to allow two earned runs in his first major league appearance.
The Twins will send Francisco Lirianoto the mound on Saturday to face Bartolo Colon.
