Finally. Justice will be served.
The best player in baseball is finally starring in his first Sports Center commercial airing this Monday and I guess whenever ESPN feels like it from that point on. Pretty amazing that El Hombre hasn’t been able to work this in to his off-season marketing tour before 2009- but better late than never.
According to Dan Ceaser of the Post Dispatch:
The “SportsCenter” commercial that Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols filmed in the offseason begins airing Monday on ESPN.
In the ad, Pujols is at a copy machine at the network headquarters and “SportsCenter” anchors Steve Levy and John Anderson compare Pujols to a machine.
After give-and-take about Pujols being a hitting machine, Pujols says, “I’m not machine, OK? I’m just Albert.”
Anderson and Levy leave the room then a voice comes from the copier saying to Pujols, “Why didn’t you eliminate them, Albert?” Pujols ends the spot by saying, “Shut up” as he drops the lid.
Meh. Maybe it will translate better on the TV, but at this point it’s pretty standard schlock from ESPN- definitely not one of the more inspired spots worthy of the :30 minute X-Mas time special.
I wonder if it’s even in English. HI-YO! Let’s find out… LINK HERE TO VID
