It appears flagging ticket sales at Yankee Stadium are paying off for the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Trenton Thunder . In a press release Wednesday, the Thunder announced that ticket sales were up 17% over the same period last season. The increase in Thunder ticket sales coincided with Yankees tickets being made available to the general public last week.“It is obvious that people have started thinking about baseball and are looking forward to the beginning of the Thunder season on April 8,” said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. “During several days last week, we had people lined up at our ticket window in the middle of the day. The Yankee Club & Conference Center has availability left for just 14 out of 71 games.”
Pic-A-Plan (10 games or more) increased by 26% from last season, and Group sales (20 tickets or more) were up 22% from 2008.
If you’ve never attended a minor league game, you should check one out sometime. The atmosphere is completely different from that of a major league park, and it features heavy fan interaction, contests, and unusual promotions. The Thunder also employs a canine bat boy, Boomer the Golden Retriever.
