National League Central Predictions  | read this item

logo.gifI don’t think my Cardinals homerism is coming through as badly today as it will Friday when I post about the postseason. For today, I think I actually have a very level-headed survey of the teams of the NL (no longer comedy) Central.

NL Central
Cubs           90        72
Cardinals   89        71
Astros         82        80
Brewers      79        83
Reds           71        91
Pirates        70        92

I honestly do believe the Cardinals will be back in contention after a two -ear post-season absence. However, the Cubs are a good team and it’s going to be a dogfight the entire way. I think the Cubs edge us out, but we edge out the Phillies for the Wild Card.  The Astros will hang around but eventually fade. The Brewers, having lost Sheets and Sabathia, won’t contend this year.  And the Reds and Pirates… will continue to be W-column fodder for the rest of the league.

Sadly, I think the Astros will surprise everyone and take the division.
