As predicted here a few weeks ago, Oriole manager Dave Trembley has chosen to send top rookie Matt Wieters to Norfolk to start the season. He will join the Norfolk team on Monday, according to MLB.com. While Trembley had nothing but praise for last year’s Minor League Player of the Year, the fact that the team will gain at least one year in future free agency by bringing him up later makes it an obvious choice. A little longer will also delay his ability to seek arbitration for another year as well, so it may be mid May or June before Matt Wieters is in Baltimore. But when he arrives, it seems he will be there to stay.
