A few days ago, Jimmy Gobble was released by the Kansas City Royals, ending their relationship with their first round pick of the 1999 amatuer draft. Coming off a miserable 2008 season where Gobble posted an 8.81 ERA in 31.7 innings, the Mets might as well take a look at this situational lefty.
With Rule V draft pick Darren O’Day getting serious consideration to stick in the bullpen, the team has to look to add another left handed pitcher to go along with Pedro Feliciano. O’Day is a right handed sidearmer, much like ex-Met Joe Smith.
Jeff Parker over at the Royals page shows us why the Mets, or any team needing a lefty, should take a look at Gobble.
Parker also notes that KC manager Trey Hillman has expressed that he “misused” Gobble.
If the Mets are willing to take a chance and sign Gobble to a $1 million contract, they may be able to fill their left handed situational role.
