The Cards cut eight more players today, bringing clarity to the bullpen situation and getting a least one outfielder some increased playing time in AAA….

Brian Barton leads the list of eight players, though not completely unexpected.  Barton was a Rule 5 pick last season, requiring the redbirds to keep him on the 25 man roster.  This year, that restriction is lifted and the team will take the opportunity to get a solid ballplayer some much needed playing time to develop him further.

Three pitchers from the 40 man roster: Mitchell Boggs, Matthew Scherer, and Charlie Manning were sent down as well.  Manning was one of the many left handed talents picked up this offseason to bolster that side of the bullpen.

Jess Todd, Adam Ottavino, Clayton Mortensen and Allan Craig, all non roster players, were assigned to Minor League camp.

This brings the total players in camp down to 37 as the Cardinals continue to trim as the season approaches.
