Just when it seemed like Sean Gallagher’s hold on a rotation spot might be slipping a bit, he put up a very nice outing today. He pitched four scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks. (This was a Diamondbacks split-squad, however, with only two recognizable players, Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds.) Anyway, Gallagher said that lousy previous outing (five runs in two-thirds of an inning) was because he was sick.

He also said that he can’t help but notice the work of Brett Anderson, Trevor Cahill and Vin Mazzaro.

“If anything it might provide a little kick in the butt to take nothing for granted here,” Gallagher said.

Gallagher said it’s good to have so much young talent waiting.

“It’s great that those guys are doing what they are doing,” he said. “They are definitely pitching beyond their years. Sometime we will need them, and they are showing they are ready.”
