This is awkward isn’t it?

You don’t me, I don’t know you- yet here we are. Together. On the same site at the same time. Bonded by the love of men in tights swinging sticks of wood at wound twine. Especially men in tights swinging sticks of wood at wound twine that are adorned with cute little birds on their chests.

So we’ve got that going for us, which I think is a positive.

We’re also fans of the internet. And we both know that nothing creepy happens on the internet. Again, a positive. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I don’t want to stand on the wall over here all night… I want to dance!

Let’s get to know each other. Every little stinking detail. I’ll go first. In no particular order, these are the 3 things you need to know about this new section of Baseball Digest’s website.

1) I do not, nor will not ever care what the St. Louis Cardinals think about me. When I started my first website the Cardinals ignored my antics, but in the 3 years since our readership has grown, so has their annoyance at me for not succumbing to their buddy-buddy ways with the St. Louis media. I love rooting for the Cardinals, but much like any other big business they have issues and not one of the writers in this section will be anything but an independent voice for the fan. It’s never ideal to turn on your own kind- but- sometimes it’s necessary. If you’re expecting puppies and rainbows every single day then I suggest you try reading another outlet. We simply can’t be another group of shills.

2) It’s going to be fun. Baseball Digest is a brand that almost every fan I’ve talked to over the past couple of weeks recognizes. Number one question I get? “They’re still around?” Yes. And this excellent new website is the means to an end… providing the best baseball information, comment and awesomeness anywhere in America. We’re growing. And if you’ve got something you want to see that you can’t find anywhere else, let us know- we’ll do it. We’re shameless and not afraid to admit it.

3) The Cubs suck. They always have and they always will. We will celebrate 100 years and counting of losing tradition here constantly. If that offends you, then you probably have a below average IQ.

We’ll be back soon… now it’s your turn. Tell me a little bit about you…

Great first article, Aaron. “If that offends you, you probably have a low IQ: LOL. Look forward to working with you buddy.

  2. gibson45 says:

Long time Cardinals fan here, ever since Gibby took down the Yankees when I was 7 years old in ’64.I am very loyal to my team and very rarely criticize the front office since I don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.I will criticize TLR for moves he makes or don’t make on the field seeing as I can see that, but at the end of the day and the year they are and will be my team.As far as the cubbies,we think alike concerning them. How can they possibly think they have a rivalry with us,they haven’t won a thing in 101 years while we have put up 10 banners,,they suck.I love Baseball Digest, best baseball magazine out there and I have been getting it for over 25 years.

  3. John says:

No, I’m pretty sure the Cardinals suck and might not if their manager weren’t an alcoholic and if their fans weren’t retarded. The only thing y’all have had going for quite some time is Mark McGwire’s steroid use, LaRussa’s DUI, and hating the Cubs just to try to claim your program is somewhat about tradition. St. Louis sucks, Budweiser sucks, and the Gateway Arch is pretty cool.
